FloQast

As a Senior Product Designer

Overview

My responsibility as a Senior Product Designer at FloQast was to conduct user research on the reporting journey in accounting, and build a product based off the findings. This includes building roadmaps, wireframes, design tickets, and hand off to engineering.

The Problem

Accountants often spend a lot of time gathering documents to be able to generate a disclosure. These documents are all over the place, meaning they can be hiding in emails, someone's file cabinets, or even as a receipt somewhere on a desk. The most consuming part of gathering this data is organizing it and formatting it to be able to input it into a disclosure document to generate a 10K or 10Q

Gathering Documents

Accountants need to gather documents of all types. Digital and physical.

Waiting On Others

This job has heavy reliance on others to provide files, which can add up time.

Calculating Subtotals

Users need to make sure the numbers add up. These transactions can be thousands.

The Idea - Tagging

The Idea - Tagging

Tags can be used in excel or Google sheet documents to extract data to calculate in a larger report. Instead of copy pasting every year, users can tag a specific cell, and have that updated number transfer the value every quarter or year.

The Flaw We Realized

With the idea to make generating reports easier, we realized another problem appeared. Users would have to manually add thousands of tags and all tags are unique.

We Need Another Solution

We Need Another Solution

We Need Another Solution

We thought about having users upload files, and create an engine that can automate tagging.

Use Existing Reports

Instead of creating thousands of tags, our idea was to pull in public data of previously created documents that had tags.

We can use existing reports found online to extract tags

Onboarding

Onboarding

Onboarding

Use existing tags from an online SEC document to import into FloQast. Users can also add tags manually.

Step 1

Step 1

Step 1

Start by tagging excel file columns with tags.

Step 2

Step 2

Step 2

Values are taken from the tags, and added to a larger document. This document can calculate subtotals and footnotes.

Step 3

Step 3

Step 3

Once the footnotes and values are calculated for your report, you will need to check for accuracy before filing to SEC.
